Bowel Cancer Screening age limit reduced to 45

July 4, 2024

With rising rates of bowel cancer among younger people, effective 1 July 2024, the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program has lowered the eligible starting age from 50 to 45 years.

Individuals aged 45 to 49 can submit a webform to request their first bowel cancer screening kit to be mailed to them. Following this initial request, a screening kit will be automatically sent to you every two years.

Alternatively, you can request your GP to submit a ‘Request an iFOBT kit’ form via the NCSR hub.

Early detection is crucial, as bowel cancer can be successfully treated in over 90% of cases when identified early.

Eligible people aged 50 to 74 will continue to receive a bowel cancer screening kit in the mail every 2 years.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please book an appointment with your regular doctor via our website or by calling 02 9087 4600.
