National Asthma Week- Let’s Breath Easier Together

September 1, 2025

This week is National Asthma Week, a reminder for all Australians living with asthma to take a moment to check in on their lung health.

Asthma affects more than 2.7 million Australians, and while it can usually be well managed, flare ups still send thousands of people to hospital each year. The good news is that a few simple steps can make a big difference in staying safe and feeling well.

Is Your Asthma Action Plan Up to Date?

An Asthma Action Plan is a personalised document you create with your GP or nurse that outlines:

  • Your regular asthma medicines
  • What to do when symptoms worsen
  • When to seek urgent medical care

If you haven’t reviewed your plan in the last 12 months or if your symptoms or medications have changed, now is the perfect time to book an appointment with your GP for an update.

Do You Know How to Use Your Inhaler Correctly?

Even long term inhaler users are sometimes surprised to learn they aren’t using the best technique. Correct use of a reliever such as Ventolin (salbutamol) ensures the medicine reaches your lungs where it’s needed most.

Everyday Tips for Better Asthma Control

  • Avoid known triggers where possible (smoke, dust, pollen).
  • Keep your reliever inhaler accessible at all times.
  • Have regular check-ups with your GP or asthma nurse.

If you’d like to update your Asthma Action Plan, or you’re unsure whether your inhaler technique is correct, please book an appointment with our team. We are here to help you breathe easier, every day.
