Rozelle Total Health are proud to participate in the Pneumococcal Vaccination Recall Program, targeting adults aged 70 years and older. Our involvement in this program is part of our commitment to increasing vaccination rates and safeguarding the health of older adults within our community.
With only 1 in 5 eligible Australians aged 70-79 having received a government-funded pneumococcal vaccination by the end of 2021, there is a significant need to boost these numbers. By participating in this recall program, we aim to ensure that more of our patients are protected against this serious disease.
What is Pneumococcal Disease?
Pneumococcal disease is caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae. It can lead to severe invasive conditions such as meningitis, pneumonia, and bacteraemia, as well as non-invasive conditions like otitis media. Vaccination is a key preventive measure to protect against these potentially life-threatening illnesses.
